Silos & Associated Steelwork

Our client required a 3D Point Cloud of an area of plant containing Silos, conveyors and associated steelwork to assist them with their project to interface new equipment and steelwork with existing.

ScanView were able to accurately capture all the required data using our Faro S70 scanner with survey control points. Scans were registered on site and sent over to the head office for post-processing where they were then imported into Autodesk Recap Software ready for handing over to the client in the form of a clean and accurate Point Cloud and also High Resolution Photographs.

The clients design department were able to extract all the required measurements needed via the Recap software for their modifications, saving time and cost on what would have ordinarily required numerous trips to site, more man hours and additional scaffold access to take the desired measurements.   The additional benefit being they could also import and check their new design models with the Point Cloud in Navisworks software and check for clashes.

Each blue circle above is a scan position on the plant containing high resolution panoramic images, as well as the 3D Point Cloud, resulting in a highly accurate ‘As Built’ survey.

A 3D CAD model was developed from the point cloud to assist the client in a better visualisation and forecast of the necessary modification to the plant.

The 3D model enabled the client to have a more effective design component for the manufacturing process and identify any clashes before production took place.
